[ Why we built it ]
Formula Won Labs runs on a lot of writing.
Client briefs, audits, weekly reports, thousands of emails a month. The commercial dictation apps we tried were either slow, expensive per seat, or wanted us to sign up before they would type a word. We wrote our own so the tool would do what we needed and stop asking questions.
Once it worked well enough for us, it worked well enough for everyone else with a keyboard. There is no upsell, no paid tier, no account. Quickword sits in your tray, listens when you hold your hotkey, and types the cleaned text where your cursor was. That is the whole product.
The Handy dictation project on GitHub was the starting point. Quickword is our fork, rebuilt around our own use cases and shipped under Formula Won Labs as publisher.

From spec to a public download in 18 days.
Every entry below is verifiable against the public GitHub tag or release. Nothing is inflated for the case study.

BUILD-tier spec written. Non-goals fixed. Scope: a dictation app that types text into whatever app has focus, no account, nothing sent off the machine.
- v0.1.0
First shipped Windows build. Hotkey, recording pill, punctuated text into the focused input. Public on GitHub Releases the same afternoon.
- v0.1.1 → v0.1.6
Six iterations that day. Hotkey conflicts, tray behavior, cleaner text output, sane defaults.

Mac build ready. Apple Silicon first, Intel followed. Same hotkey, same feel, same file structure.

Refinement week. Longer sessions without drift, better handling of accents and jargon, less friction on first run.

Quickword has no paid tier planned. The point of the tool is that it does the thing without becoming another subscription line item. That framing is on the whole site, in the JSON-LD, and in the release notes.
