Three weeks of curing per candle

Three weeks of curing per candle

Five fragrances. 100% soy wax. Cotton wick. Poured in small batches in our Greenpoint studio and rested until the scent sets completely.

Most candles are poured fast. Ours are not.

How we make them

Most candles are poured fast. Ours are not.

Common Wick started in a Greenpoint apartment in 2021. The first batch took three weeks to cure. We thought something had gone wrong. Then we lit it.

Every candle we make rests for at least twenty-one days before it ships. During that time the fragrance oils bond with the wax, the top sets flat, and the throw deepens. It is a slow process and we are not in a hurry to change it.

We use coconut-soy wax, a lead-free cotton wick, and fragrance oil at the highest concentration the wax will hold without sweating. The glass jars are made by a glassblower in Red Hook. You can send them back for a refill.

Twenty-one days. Every time. Non-negotiable.

From our customers

What people say

I have bought candles from a dozen places over the years. Common Wick is the first time I have run out and ordered the same one twice without shopping around first.

The sample set is a good idea. I was sure I would pick Fig and Warm Earth and I ended up ordering Dark Tobacco. You need to smell them.

Gifted the Linen and Clover to my sister for her new apartment. She asked me where it was from within two days. Ordered two more for her birthday.

The refill program is the thing that got me. Same price as a new jar minus the glass. I have sent three jars back. It feels like the right way to run a candle brand.

Common questions

Before you order

We only ship candles that have completed a full twenty-one-day cure in our studio. If you order during a pour week, your candle ships at the end of the cure period, not when the order is placed. The estimated ship date is always shown at checkout.

The 10 oz jar burns approximately 55 hours. The 4 oz travel size burns approximately 25 hours. Both figures assume you follow the first-burn rule: let the wax pool reach the edges on the first burn before extinguishing. That prevents tunneling.

Yes, within 30 days of delivery if the candle has not been burned. We cover return shipping if the jar arrived damaged. For fragrance preference issues, we suggest starting with the sample set. We cannot guarantee a scent will work for every space.

Send back an empty 10 oz jar with a note including your order number. We pour a fresh candle in your jar at $28, which is $14 less than a new candle. You cover shipping to us; we cover shipping back.

Not currently. Wax candles often do not survive international transit heat variation well. We are looking at international shipping options for 2025.

We use fragrance oils, not essential oils. None of our fragrances contain eucalyptus, tea tree, or citrus compounds in concentrations considered harmful to cats or dogs. That said, burn in ventilated rooms and keep open flames out of reach of animals.
