What does each booked job really cost you?
For contractors who pay for leads: enter five numbers from last month and see what each booked job cost you and the profit left on it.
How the math works
- Cost per lead is your monthly spend divided by your leads.
- Booked jobs are your leads times your close rate.
- Cost per booked job is your monthly spend divided by your booked jobs.
- Profit per booked job is your job value times your gross margin, minus your cost per booked job.
Example: spend $1,000 on 50 leads and close 20% of them, and you book 10 jobs. Each job cost you $100 in leads. On a $500 job with a 30% margin you keep $150 before lead costs, so $50 after.
Common questions
What is cost per booked job?
It is what you paid for leads divided by the jobs those leads turned into. If $1,000 in leads became 10 jobs, each job cost you $100.
Why not just look at cost per lead?
A lead is not a job. A $20 lead that books one time in ten costs you $200 per job. Cost per booked job is the number that comes out of your profit.
What close rate should I use?
Your own from last month: booked jobs divided by the leads you paid for. If you do not track it, start with your best guess and change it to see how much it moves the result.
