Tom Reyes spent a decade with a regional plumbing contractor before he noticed a gap: NW Portland kept getting skipped. The big outfits ran jobs in the suburbs and sent 45-minute ETAs into Nob Hill and Slabtown. Tom lived in the Alphabet District. He knew his neighbors were waiting three days for someone to show up.
In 2008 he started Riverbend from a single van. The rule was simple: one zip code at a time, same-day when possible, phone answered by someone who knows the neighborhood.
Today Riverbend runs four licensed plumbers across eleven NW and N Portland neighborhoods. Tom still does walkthroughs on repipe jobs and still answers the phone on Saturday mornings. Every tech holds an Oregon Journeyman or Master Plumber license and will show ID before stepping inside.
